Coinbase Commerce alternative
Coinbase Commerce is gone. Taking bitcoin doesn’t have to be.
Coinbase closed the Commerce portal on 31 March 2026 and moved merchants to Coinbase Business, which takes USDC and USDT only, holds the funds for you, checks your business, and is open in the US and Singapore. If you want customers paying in bitcoin, from any wallet, straight into yours, run a BTCPay Server node. Myntli runs it for you: $29 a month, no percentage.
If dollar-pegged stablecoins are what you want, Coinbase Business is built for them. The comparison below says where each one wins.
What changed
From bitcoin checkout to stablecoin account, in five steps
- November 2023: Commerce moves to Coinbase’s “onchain payment protocol”, which converts each payment to USDC.
- April 2024: bitcoin payments can no longer come from a self-custody wallet or another exchange, only from a Coinbase account.
- October 2025: Coinbase announces it will fold Commerce into Coinbase Business.
- 31 March 2026: the deadline to move. After it, the Commerce portal is no longer accessible.
- August 2026: Coinbase Business adds USDT alongside USDC. Bitcoin isn’t on the list.

Before you choose
When Coinbase Business is still the better choice
You want stablecoins
USDC and USDT stay pegged to the dollar. Bitcoin’s price moves; an invoice locks the rate, but what you hold afterwards is yours to worry about.
You already bank with Coinbase
A US or Singapore business with a Coinbase account gets payments and conversion in one place.
You’d rather not hold the keys
With your own node there’s a seed phrase to keep safe, and nobody can recover it for you.
You sell very little
At 1%, Coinbase Business costs less than $29 until your crypto sales pass about $2,900 a month.
Moving across
From Commerce to your own node
- Make a wallet you control, or use the one you had on Commerce, and back up its seed phrase.
- Send us its public key, your shop and your domain. A public key can receive, never spend.
- We build your BTCPay store on our full bitcoin node and wire it into your shop: WooCommerce, Shopify, Ghost and others, or your own code over the API.
- We make a real test payment, and you watch it arrive in your own wallet before any customer does.
Questions people ask
What happened to Coinbase Commerce?
Coinbase folded it into Coinbase Business. Merchants had to move by 31 March 2026, and the Commerce portal closed after that.
Does Coinbase Business accept bitcoin?
No. Customers pay in USDC or USDT, and payments land in your Coinbase Business account in USDC.
Is Coinbase Business custodial?
Yes. Coinbase describes it as a custodial platform that holds your funds on your behalf. Coinbase Commerce wallets were self-custodial.
How much does Coinbase Business charge?
1% for merchants who moved from Commerce. Coinbase doesn’t publish a rate for new merchants; it shows current fees after you log in. Converting USDC to dollars costs extra.
What is the best Coinbase Commerce alternative for bitcoin?
One that takes bitcoin from any wallet and pays you directly. Your own BTCPay Server node does both, with no fee per sale, and Myntli runs one for $29 a month.
Keep taking bitcoin.
$29 a month and we run the node, or $449 once and we install it on your own server. Either way, the coins go straight to your wallet.
