BitPay fees in 2026: what a merchant really pays

Myntli guide card: BitPay fees, in full. What merchants really pay in 2026, and when your own node costs less.

BitPay charges merchants 2% + 25¢ per transaction while their paid invoices that month total under $500,000; 1.5% + 25¢ from $500,000 to $999,999; and 1% + 25¢ from $1 million. The tier resets on the first of each month, the fee comes out of your daily payout, and high-risk industries pay more. On top of that there’s a non-refundable application fee, and shoppers paying in bitcoin pay a network cost fee.

Below: the tiers, what they come to at real volumes, the costs outside the percentage, and who holds your money until it’s paid out. All figures are from bitpay.com and BitPay’s support pages, checked on 30 September 2026.

The costs outside the percentage

  • An application fee. BitPay’s merchant terms require a non-refundable fee when you open the account. It doesn’t publish the amount.
  • Wire fees. BitPay may charge them on payouts, except for dollars sent to a US bank or euros within SEPA.
  • A network cost fee, paid by your shoppers when they pay in bitcoin.
  • Refunds at the original fiat value, paid out of your BitPay balance, which needs enough funds to cover them.

Who holds your money

Every payment goes to a BitPay address, not yours. BitPay’s terms say you have no claim on the crypto it receives: what you’re owed is the settlement, paid out daily in fiat, in crypto, or split between the two. BitPay also verifies your business, and asks for more as your volume grows: incorporation papers, photo ID and proof of address, then bank statements.

Is BitPay worth it?

For some shops, yes. If you want dollars or euros in the bank without ever touching crypto, want to take a dozen coins, and sell only a little in crypto, BitPay does the conversion for you. Below roughly $1,200 a month in bitcoin sales, its fee comes to less than a flat $29.

If you’d rather keep the bitcoin, skip the business checks, or stop paying a percentage as you grow, the fee climbs with every sale: $250 a month at $10,000 in sales, and $1,250 at $50,000.

The flat-fee alternative

Your own BTCPay Server node takes no percentage. Customers pay your wallet directly, and nothing in between can hold or freeze the money. Myntli runs the node for you on our full bitcoin node, wired into your shop and tested with a real payment: $29 a month, whatever you sell, or $449 once on your own server.
